For our next classroom, Principal Cruz introduced us to Mrs. Sauls and her fifth graders. We got to discuss why donations are important, Mesa College, and much more! Mrs. Sauls and her students were absolutely surprised by the sheer amount of notebooks we were able to give to her and her students. (Over 130!) They are set for the next two years for their practice in English literature and writing. I was overwhelmed with joy when everyone started happily yelling about their new donations for their school year. I am glad I can start this community engagement project and see the San Diego community excel in the school system. It was very nice to meet Mrs. Sauls and her students. I wish them all the best in their education! Principal Cruz decided to give us a tour and allow us to give the donations directly to the teachers and students. Our first of many classrooms we headed to was the writing class of the second graders! I sectioned each part of the video to be more accessible, having shorter clips so you can check out which part you want to hear about. I was able to discuss about my time at @aspireskilldevelopment and how this project enabled me to help the community. I was also able to give some words of motivation for students, ensuring they create change in the future for their local communities. There was a surprise for the students as well and they were ecstatic about their new supplies. Students are not shown in any videos for their own safety and privacy. Here is the first part of our donation drop off at Ross Elementary! For the beginning of the day, Brandi and I met with the school administrators Ms. Gamez-Ramirez, Ms. Pritchett and including Principal Cruz! We started off hauling all the items and got to splitting the resources evenly amongst the teachers in many classrooms. Our first donation went to the school administrators with the black binders for the office paperwork! We then headed next door to the nurse's office and gave them hand sanitizer and tissues for the flu season. Lastly, meeting up with Ms.Claudia was such a joy as she leads the Art Club herself at Ross. She was extremely ecstatic and I'm so thankful for everyone who contributed to these first set of donations. These teachers and students will have an abundance of these school necessities for all of them to thrive in class! Please check out my Instagram page for more pictures and videos.
